Restaurants
- Chuy'sChuy's is one of our favorite Tex-Mex restaurants. Be sure to ask for the creamy jalapeno dip for your tortilla chips.
- Amy's Ice CreamRich, creamy, and delicious, Amy's is a Texas tradition that began in Austin. If you go into an Amy's store, be sure to taste as many of the flavors as you want, and keep an eye on the servers if someone asks for a crush'n.
- Threadgill'sThreadgill's specializes in "Southern" food, and for the most part they get it right (their cornbread tastes a bit too sweet, however). Like any good home cooking restaurant should do, Threadgill's serves seconds on all the side dishes if you ask nicely.
- Chez ZeeChez Zee is romantic little spot that serves delicious desserts in the evenings and excellent brunch with fresh croissants and strawberry butter. But we suggest you go for brunch on Saturday rather than Sunday, since you're invited to our place for breakfast tacos on Sunday.
- Alamo DrafthouseThe
Alamo Drafthouse is our favorite place to catch dinner and a movie, at the same time! The location downtown often has special events, such as sing-alongs and special screenings. The locations near our house and on South Lamar show first-runs. The best part about watching first-run films at Alamo is that there are no commercials! The second best part is the vintage trailers and clips they show before each film.
- Hula HutOwned by the same great people who brought us Chuy's, Hula Hut is a popular Mexican-Polynesian restaurant with great drinks and tasty "tubular tacos".
- Opal Divine'sThe downtown location of Opal Divine's is where we went on our first date! Enjoy good pub grub, decent brunch, and an excellent selection of scotch.
- The OasisOverlooking Lake Travis, The Oasis is a great, if out-of-the-way to grab a bite and watch the sunset. They even cheer the sunset every evening!
